Ten Days in Cornwall
I just got back from a trip to Cornwall—a dream opportunity that came right after I released Book XI: Manuscripts, Meows & Murder. Stepping into Port Isaac, the very setting of the writer’s retreat in that book, was an absolute treat. I also got to wander the streets of Fowey just as Leta and Wendy did on their literary bus tour of the coast. And visiting Tintagel, where Leta and the gang attended a yoga retreat in Book V: Castles, Catnip & Murder? That was the icing on the cake!
Port Isaac
For my Doc Martin fans, a selection of Port Isaac pics. The small stone house with the grey door is Doc Martin’s. The larger white building is the restaurant/pub. The schoolhouse in real life is also restaurant. I took a pic of the carriage house because I was fascinated with the explanation of how it relates to stage coaches.
A driver pulls his horse and carriage into the carriage house and leaves them behind. He picks up a new set and continues on the next stage of the journey. On the return, he switches again.
Tintagel
Tintagel. We stood on a cliff overlooking the ruins of Tintagel as our guide enthralled us with history. I took pages of notes. You can see the bridge in the pic— the bridge Leta, Wendy, and Rhiannon cross from the mainland to the castle proper in Book V— Castles, Catnip & Murder. The large stone is a Neolithic burial chamber—from 3600 BC, long before King Arthur.
Fowey
Fowey, pronounced Foy, is on the English Channel and was the home of Daphne du Maurier. As a girl, she summered with her family at the white and blue house known as Ferryside. After WWII, she and her husband returned to Fowey to live. The atmospheric settings of her novels like Rebecca, My Cousin Rachel, and so many others were inspired by her life in Fowey.
